MARION E. HAMILTON Mr. Marion Ezell Hamilton, age 58 died Thursday, July 10th following a brief illness. Funeral service was held Tuesday, July 15th, 4:00 P.M. Brown's Funeral Home Chapel, ' Hev. Otis L. Hairston pastor of Shiloh Baptist Church officiat- ! ed. Burial followed in Pied mont Memorial Park. The body remained at the funeral home until the hour of service. CHARLES WILSON Mr. Charles Wilson, age 37 died at his home 737 Wilming- I ton St. July 7th following a brief ' illness. I Funeral service was held Sunday, July 13th, 1:30 P.M. C. Brown's Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements. JAMES C. LEATH Mr. J. C. Leath, age 53 of 764 ! Poteat Ct., died on July 9, 1969 j at Moses H. Cone Memorial 1 J Hospital following a sudden ill- I ness. Funeral services were held Saturday, July 12 at 3:00 p.m. at the Hargett Memorial Chap el with Rev. Frank Williams officiating. Interment was in Piedmont Memorial Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Isabell Evan Leath; three daughters, Mrs. Carolyn Leath Ingram of Washington, D. C., Miss Elizabeth Ann and Miss Chiquitta Leath both of the home; two sons, James Clark and Dwight Leath both of the home; two sisters, Mrs. Denoris Tate of Graham, Miss Ruth Leath of Burlington, N". C.; four brothers, Vernon Leath of Elon College, Clyde, Herbert and William Leath all of Burlington, N. C. and five grandchildren. The family met their friends at Hargett's Memorial Chapel Friday night from 8 to 9 p.m. Hargett's Funeral Service in charge of arrangements. Baby Contest of Ward Five of The Institutional Baptist Church Shown in the photo above are a few of the outstanding per sonalities who took part in the Baby Contest of Ward Five of the United Institutional Baptist Church. From the left, are Mrs. Virginia Cherry and her daugh ter Virginia of 1709 Dunbar St. who won second place in the contest. Standing just back of them is Mrs. Mamie Harris of 1602 McConnell Road, who spon sored Mr. and Mrs. Cherry's baby and w? also Chairman' of the Baby Contest for the Ward. Next to them are Mrs. Robert Burweil and her son, Robert, TRAVELERS TO THE HOLY LAND On July 9 at 10:30 a.m. the Rev Willie B. Harbor, his wife Mrs. Doris Cohen Harbor and their children left for a tour to the Holy Lands. The trip was made possible for the Harbor family by a well known busi ness man, Mr. Murice "ZHzzjr" Osborne of Eden, N. C. The Rev. Harbor is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ross Harbor, Sr., and a life time resident of Stoneville, N. C. He was edu cated at the Stoneville Elemen tary and Charles Drew High School, Madison, N. C. He later served in the United States Army, spending most of his term in Europe, during World War II and received a honorable discharge in 1946. He became inspired to the ministry upon returning to the States, received his pastoral cre dentials from the United Holy Church of America, Inc., in 1948 and was ordained in 1955. He founded the Burning Bush United Holy Church of Stone ville and pastored it for 23 years. In 1056 he was appointed as pastor of St. Mark United | Holy Church, Greensboro, N.C. which he is rebuilding. Rev. Harbor is also the founder of the mission in the Black Bottom Community of Eden. He serves as president of the Western District Union which consist of 40 churches. He also is chairman of the Board of Ed ucation of Stone School of Stoneville and is on the board of directors of community funds and the board of directors of the Rockingham County Fund of Public Welfare. Ranking Students Cited at A&T State U. In Home Economics Thirty-six students of the De partment of Home Economics at A&T State University were re cently cited for outstanding ! achievements during the past -chool term. The honorees included Miss luby Dickens of Tarboro, N. C., who was honored as the top anking student in the depart ment. She was presented the -tokely-Van Camp Silver Tri vet award by Dr. Cecile H. Ed wards, chairman of the depart nent. Also cited for her outstand ing work in home economics was Miss Dorothy Mason, Charlotte, V. C. Miss Mason graduated in Tune and plans to teach begin ning in September. Other award winners include Miss Effie L. Stanford, Nor walk. Conn.; the Sears-Roebuck Foundation Scholarship Award; Miss Joyce Galloway, South port, N. C., Winston-Salem Dis trict Dietetic Association Award; Honored for outstanding schol arship in the department were Marcia D. Dawson, Elvenor Hairston, Dorothy Mason, Mer lene Tapp, Glenda Alston, Yvonne Brown, Janice Knight, Mary Caraway, Queen Laws, Betty Sherrod, Shirley M. Moore and Bettye Brown. Also Hazel Gainey, Toyce E. Galloway, Mary L. Johnson, Dorothea Thomas, Claudia Goodson, Geralding Henderson, Georgia Parker and Deborah Newman. Ill, of 1324 Ardmore Drive, who won the first place in the Baby Contest With them is Mo, James Pearce, the baby's chit/ sponsor, and along with her fang - ily, the chief money-raiser ior the entire Contest. The third prize was won by Derek G. Reid, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Reid of 1849 Munccy Lane. He was sponsored by his mother and Mrs. Gladys Minor. The contest which netted more than $1,100.00 is the 14th that has been sponsored by Ward Five under the leadership of Mrs. Fiorina Whitehead and L. A. Wise during the past 17 years. Tapped for Sales Career LEROY BELL. Leroy Bell, a June graduate of A&T State University in ani mal science, has been employed by the Upjohn Pharmaceutical Company, Kalamazoo, Mich. A ? native of Concord, N. <X, BeU has been assigned to the Wis consin-Illinois area. He will specialize in animal health pro | ducts.
